A common question I get asked is, “Will Pilates make me lose weight?”. I realize that most people start exercising to help with weight reduction or maintenance, but the short answer here is no. Pilates WON’T actually make you lose weight.
Truly most of weight reduction depends on what you’re eating and how your body is dealing with your lifestyle is going to help with that. Since I’m not in your kitchen and only see you a time or two a week, Pilates won’t be some magical weight loss trick you discover. I’m not a nutritionist and I don’t know how you’re feeding yourself, so that’s outside my scope of practice.
Stress, hormones, and even your sleep habits can impact your weight. I highly recommend finding someone you trust that’s a registered dietician or nutritionist and have them advise you on the best way to support your body’s overall needs in order to lose weight.
But don't completely give up on Pilates just yet!
Here’s the good news:

Pilates WILL tighten and tone your muscles under any fat you do have! It will help you feel better about your body and will change its shape, even if it doesn’t change the number on your scale.
You will gain confidence, move more effortlessly, and have less pain.
And when you feel better, you’re more apt to change how you look at the food you’re eating, how you're living, and to make healthier choices.
Toning your muscles will also burn more calories and fat throughout your day. A stronger body is a much more efficient body, which makes it easier to see noticeable changes when you adjust your nutrition.
Pairing Pilates with safe nutritional advice (please don’t follow the latest social media trend to “lose weight fast!” – that’s a recipe for disaster) will have you feeling taller, leaner, and more connected than ever. What better reason to get started?
