Pilates in the Sun: Energize Your Summer Fitness Routine

Summertime can be make or break for your Pilates routine. You don't want to be stuck inside at all, you don't feel like sticking to a rigid daily routine in the flowing, restful, lazy days of summer, and the idea of all that time "off" is a welcome respite from your otherwise planned-to-the-minute life the rest of the year. Your Pilates practice can really suffer, and then come September, every habit you've ever had feels like it'll never come back. You need a do-over. A kickstart. A complete mindset overhaul.


Trust me, I LOVE summer. July is one of my favorite months! It's my birthday month, but it's also the best month of summer. Summer's only just begun, it feels like there's endless time to enjoy the heat & laidback vibes, and there's so much to look forward to.

 

I know that it feels hard to stick with a routine in the summer, but it's actually easy if you let go of the idea that the only thing that counts is your hour-long Pilates session on the mat in your living room.


As the sun warms up and summer beckons, it’s the perfect time to refresh your Pilates routine and soak in those seasonal vibes. Here are some fun and friendly tips to help you make the most out of your Pilates workouts during this sunny season & slide into September feeling like the transition back isn't a big deal:

 

🌞 Shorten things up: Five minutes is better than no minutes! It all adds up.


🌞 Pilates Summer Camp: Join me for 50 days of Pilates with short 30-minute live virtual workouts and replays that stay up all summer! Get your bestie to join with you for a fun way to stay active and spend time with friends. You can join anytime this summer, even if you missed the start!

 

🌞 Pilates at the Pool: Try some of your favorite moves while you float - not only will it be challenging, you'll get extra ab work from laughing! You can also do the mat work beside the pool and dive in when you're done for a refreshing finale.


🌞 Mat in the Park: Take your Pilates mat to the grass! Find a shady spot in the park or your backyard to hit your practice. Enjoy the fresh air and natural surroundings while you strengthen your core and stretch those muscles you'll be using for all the things this summer.


🌞 Water Bottle Boost: Stay hydrated with a twist! Bring your water bottle to class and incorporate it into your routine for added resistance. It’s a refreshing way to challenge your balance and coordination (and gets lighter & easier the more you drink!).


🌞 Sunrise Stretch: Kickstart your day with a sunrise Pilates session. Early mornings offer cooler temperatures and a peaceful atmosphere to focus on your practice. Plus, you’ll energize your body and mind for the day ahead. What better way to start your day?


🌞 Beachside Pilates: Head to the beach and take your Pilates workout to the sand. The soft surface adds an extra challenge to your exercises, while the sound of the waves provides a calming backdrop for your session.


🌞 Pilates Paddleboarding: Try Pilates on a paddleboard for a unique balance and core workout. It’s a fantastic way to strengthen stabilizing muscles while enjoying the beauty of the water. Just remember to stay safe and wear a life jacket!


🌞 Pilates Picnic: Combine Pilates with a social outing! Organize a Pilates picnic with friends in the park. Bring along your mats, enjoy healthy snacks, and take turns leading each other through Pilates exercises. It’s a fun way to stay active and connect with friends.


🌞 Summer Pilates Gear: Treat yourself to Pilates gear that’s breathable and summer-ready. Look for lightweight leggings, tank tops with UV protection, and a stylish sun hat to keep you cool and protected during outdoor sessions.
